What is the best option for Replacing Missing Teeth – Dentures OR Implants?

It’s a million dollar question to a problem that exists for many Americans, studies show that about 70% of the adults in the thirties and forties have missing teeth. Causes? Maybe a cavity, gum disease or accidents.

In the midst of a crisis, we are often lost for decisions and dental problems can be rather painful and stressful too. Since we are most concerned about delicate regions of the body, the face, mouth and teeth are certainly among them.

Dentures would usually be needed when many teeth are missing or need to be removed. If an entire row is to be replaced then dentures might be the way to go as typically implants would mean artificial replacements for one or more missing teeth. However no hard and fast rule exists and the topic needs to be researched further as each case can differ. In any case, we suffer no matter the number of teeth that have been affected by disease or injury. Avoiding this is not the right thing to do because the usual needs of your teeth like chewing and speaking will be affected. Smiles and gum health will suffer if a missing tooth exists and the supporting bone can be impacted as well.

Contrary to what many think, implants though costly would last a lifetime and are perfect replacements for natural teeth, equally hard and perfect replicas. Also you will not have to worry about the responsibilities of caring for dentures as appose to implants as you can treat them like your real teeth.

Dentures can do wonders to the personality and provide a facelift! Dentures are less expensive but not quite so comfortable. They may need adjustments over periods of time and need a lot of attention. If several teeth have to be replaced, dentures or implants would serve the purpose very well. In such a case, the dentures can slip and that is often the problem with them, rather embarrassing too in the midst of chewing or talking.

Some experts believe that implants are the better option for many reasons. One may ask what is the main reason? The answer: you will never need to replace them ever. An implant certainly looks and feels quite the same as your natural teeth. Made from titanium, implants will not bother or move the adjacent teeth. Another benefit is you will protect the jawbone with implants that become a substitute for the root as well. Resorption or the breaking down of bone does not take place when you have an implant that seems to be the best option under the circumstances.
